How to Actually Upskill in AI (Not Just Use ChatGPT)
Everyone claims GenAI experience; most have just used ChatGPT. The Kaggle-to-DeepLearning.ai path I hand anyone who asks how to genuinely learn this stuff.
So recently my team has been on the hunt for some new engineering talent internally to boost our capabilities (looking Internally only, sorry). Naturally, we're after wizards in GenAI, Traditional AI, Datagraphs, and all things data science. Now, here's the kicker – I've noticed a peculiar trend lately: people saying they have experience or knowledge of GenAI/ML and really they have just been using ChatGPT.
This mostly bothers me because there are so many resources to upskill in AI. So technical or functional here is where I tell people to start:
Start off at Kaggle.com – coding chops required, but fear not, it's surprisingly user-friendly and eases you in like.... something smooth. If you're new to coding, start off with Intro to Programming followed by their Python courses.
Still on Kaggle, Dive deep into Machine Learning with courses on intro & Intermediate Machine Learning, Feature Engineering, and Intro to Deep Learning. Trust me, understanding these basics is crucial to grasping GenAI inside out. After all, how can you capitalize its potential if you don't get how it ticks?

Next, definitely, if you are a developer, but really everyone! Explore Deeplearning.ai – it's tough, but worth every brain cell. If you got through Kaggle, a little help from Google and ChatGPT will see you through these beginner courses.
Bonus round! Tune into TwoMinutePappers on YouTube for the latest in AI research; this really helps you sound like a fortune teller when you mention something you watch here, and 6 months later, it's becoming mainstream in AI.
Now, the fun begins – build something! Anything! Non-techies, look into FloWise/RailWay for an interesting project showcase; techies, start tinkering with OpenSource gems like FloWise, CrewAi, or AutoGPT. Hands-on is the best teacher.
